Summer Tinker Box

NC A&T is offering Summer Tinker Boxes for youth.  The Summer Fun box for grades 3 - 8 will include 3 activities to keep your tinkerers busy this summer. Those in grades 3 - 5 may need more adult supervision, but the activities are appropriate for all ages.

For the "Build a Boat" challenge youth learn about buoyancy and power by designing and building a boat. Parents will need to provide 2 AA batteries, tape and scissors. All other materials are in the kit.

The "Hydraulic Claw" challenge involves youth using common materials to build a hydraulic powered claw. They will modify the claw to perform specific tasks. You may need a few recyclable items from around the house to make the modifications.

During the pilot phase of the program, we are mailing ONE box per child. The box will come with the materials (some optional and recycled materials may have to be gathered) and instructions to complete the challenge. The boxes are separated by grade levels, but you may choose your preferred activity. Once the capacity for the box has been reached, all other responses will be added to a waitlist. You will be notified via email if you are on the waitlist. Please complete a separate form for each child.

The link to register for these boxes is:  https://ncat.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bj6CJjrt9W7mCq2

Operation HomePort Internship Program

We are excited to announce that the new Operation HomePort internship program is now accepting applications! Operation HomePort (OHP) is a partnership with the US Navy Child & Youth Programs that offers hands-on, experiential learning opportunities to work at Navy CYP facilities throughout the United States and selected international locations.  This program will help interns to experience professional growth and career networking while simultaneously gaining invaluable, real-world experience in the Department of Defense's largest child-care network.

OHP interns assist in and lead the planning of developmentally appropriate activities, facilitate and participate in planned activities, and support positive, respectful relationships between children, youth, parents, and CYP professionals.  OHP assignments are approximately 120-days long at Navy CYP facilities throughout the United States and selected overseas locations.  Opportunities may exist for interns to extend their current assignment or to complete an additional assignment in a new, exciting location.  Please visit our website at https://operationhomeport.weebly.com/ for more information.

We are asking for your assistance in widely sharing the attached letter throughout your personal and professional networks. Operation HomePort is a good fit for a wide array of interested individuals: gap year students, active college students, graduates as well as those in career-changing or post-career status.

Please contact us with any Operation HomePort questions. We appreciate your assistance!
