2023 4-H Volunteer of the Year

 



The Robeson County 4-H Volunteer Hall of Fame was created in 2009 thanks to the vision of Dr. Eddie and Mrs. Brenda Locklear who created an endowment to support the Volunteer Hall of Fame.  The Locklear's recognize and celebrate those people who have made a significant impact on Robeson County 4-H and its members.  One current 4-H Volunteer will be chosen per year to receive this prestigious award.  Volunteers may only win the award once in their career.  If a nominee has been nominated but not selected in previous years, their form may be resubmitted.  The 4-H staff members are not eligible for the award and may not make nominations.  Nominations forms for the Robeson County 4-H Volunteer Hall of Fame must be received by November 24.
The selection Committee is primarily interested in learning about the nominee's significant impacts on 4-H'ers and /or the 4-H Program.  The nominee should exhibit outstanding citizenship, leadership, career accomplishments, and character.  Limit nomination information to space allotted in this nomination form.

3.  Career Accomplishments as exemplified by accomplishments and success in her/her chosen career and as a mentor or role model.
4.  Character as exemplified by evidence of the influence of 4-H involvement (if a 4-H alumni or volunteer)in the nominee's life and/or his or her commitment to 4-H.
5.  Any other information that would be beneficial for the selection committee to know.

4-H Family Holiday Crafting SPIN Club

 


This club is for all currently active member in 4-H (actively enrolled in 4-H Online) and their families. We will meet three times and work on a craft each time and learn the value of crafting, as well as the entrepreneurial side of creating your own business. Each meeting will be at the NC Cooperative Extension, Robeson County Center office at 455 Caton Road in Lumberton. We will meet starting at 6 pm and wind up by 8 pm at the latest. Please see the dates and crafting projects below. Each project is designed to be completed during the club meeting and a list will be provided of supplies if you would like to continue these projects at home.

By registering you are registering for all three craft club meetings. Please register each member of the family that will be attending. If you can not attend a meeting we will have supplies for you to pick up and a video tutorial to try at home.

Thursday, November 2- Yarn Wreaths. Come in a learn how to make festive wreaths for the holidays that will last for years to come.

Thursday, November 16-Cross Stitch Ornaments. We will teach you the fun of making designs with needle and thread. If you can count and make an X you can do this fun and easy ornament project.

Tuesday, November 21-Get ready for Christmas Charcuterie. We will work on festive holiday snacks for gifts, celebrations, and more.

SE District 4-H Fall Day

   


Adult Volunteers one of you favorite days of the year is here!  District Fall Day will be held November 4 in Wayne County.  Of course we will provide transportation for our volunteers who register and if you register and attend we will pay your registration fee for supplies.  Lunch is included in the event.  Please see the information below about the schedule and workshops.

  This event is for 4-H Adult Volunteers in the SE District. Fall Day is an event for volunteer training, to conduct business on behalf of your district association, and to network.  The workshop topics revolve around the 4-H's.

-Head... Learning about the Mindful Curriculum

-Heart...Learning how to use people's primary language

-Hands...Learning how to hand knit a blanket for donation

-Health...Learning about favorite food contests and how you can implement them

The agenda for the day is:

9:30-10:00 AM- Registration

10:00 AM-11:30 AM-Workshops

11:30 AM-1:00 PM Lunch and Business Meeting

There is a $12 charge for supplies. However if Robeson County Volunteers register and attend we will pay the $12 charge for you.

Lunch will be provided as part of the event.

Join Us for the Fall Festival!

Join us for a morning of FREE family friendly fall fun! Enjoy some fall refreshments and apple cider as you stroll through The Gardens and visit our various educational demonstrations and activity tables. Folks of all ages can make fall inspired crafts, learn about all things gourds and the journey of cotton from field to yarn, and much more. Come on out for gourd time in The Gardens!


This year we will have a Sensory Free/Quiet Zone during the Fall Festival for anyone who may want or need a quieter environment at any point during the event.

Mushrooms are Family Time

   


Please see the information above about a mushroom workshop being held by our own Mack Johnson.  Each person will have the chance to not only learn about mushroom but drill and inoculate a log to take home with them.  Mushroom logs generally take a year before fruiting, so this is for patient gardeners.  This would be a fun workshop for adults and youth alike.

Picking in the Pines

You're invited to the 2023 fundraiser and celebration Pickin in the Pines at Millstone 4-H Camp on October 21 from 3 to 8 pm! 

Don't miss all the fun, BBQ and Bluegrass at this year's Pickin in the Pines event at Millstone 4-H Camp. We are proud to say that, with your help, we have raised funding to send 80+ youth in need to camp since this fundraiser started in 2018 and we want to keep the momentum going. 

Join us for a magical evening of food, music, drinks, dance, and friendly gathering in the Pines! 

Headlining the event is Bluegrass legend Junior Sisk! We will also have local group The Axe Handlers. 


Your $50 event ticket includes a BBQ meal, beer/wine for the evening and entertainment from these two first-class Bluegrass acts. You'll find many unique pieces donated by craftsmen and foundations all across North Carolina on sale at our silent auction. Don't miss out on all the fun, food and Bluegrass! 


NEW this year! The event will feature an open Bluegrass jam starting at 3pm. BYOinstrument and join the musical fun. All levels welcome.
