State Fair

 


The NC State Fair is quickly approaching from October 16-26, 2025. We wanted to remind you of the various opportunities you can participate in at the fair.

Entry Deadlines:

Please refer to the deadlines listed under each section in the premium book.

For 4-H Crafts, Exhibits, Entomology, Photography, Haybales, etc.:

  • Entry Deadline: Sunday, September 15, 2025

  • Haybale Decoration Time: Specific times will be allocated.

Exhibit Drop-Off Times:

  • Deliver exhibits to the Education Building Saturday, October 11; Sunday, October 12 from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm; and Monday, October 13 from 8:00 am - 12:00 noon. • Exhibits released from other fairs will be accepted until 3:00 pm on Monday, October 13 with entry tag from prior fair. Call 919 839 4513 for details.

  • Location: Education Building

  • Haybale Decorating must be completed on Saturday, October 10 thru Monday, October 13. Location:  Grassy area in between of the Kerr Scott Building and the Administration Offices.

  • Pick-Up Date: Monday, October 27, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Please see this section for specifics on when you can bring your items. Ensure you allow enough time to complete your entry process by Noon on the deadline day. We are open the weekend prior to the fair, so please avoid waiting until the last minute.

Competitions:

  • County Exhibits: Pre-assigned with one per Extension District. The following counties—Perquimans, Onslow, Orange, Hoke —have been contacted and are working on their booths to represent each district. Must be completed by Sunday - October 12.

  • Categories Open to Any 4-H’er:

    • 4-H Crafts

    • 4-H Photography

    • 4-H Entomology

    • 4-H Hay Bale Decorating (1 entry per county; submission must be coordinated by the county 4-H agent and registered as the County 4-H Program.

Competition Guidelines

  • Competition is open to North Carolina residents only, and youth must be registered in 4-H online.

  • Two entries per exhibitor, per Class.

  • Entry registration deadline is Sunday, September 15, 2025

  • NC Substitute W-9 forms are required to receive prize money.

  • Deliver craft exhibits to the Education Building Saturday, October 11; Sunday, October 12 from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm; and Monday, October 13 from 8:00 am - 12:00 noon. • Exhibits released from other fairs will be accepted until 3:00 pm on Monday, October 13, with an entry tag fromthe prior fair.

  • General Rules and Regulations of the Fair will govern this department.

  • The point system used for judging in each class aids the judges in selecting winners, but is not the sole factor in the awarding of ribbons and placements.

Remembering Margaret Crites

   It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of 4-H Volunteer Margaret Crites.  Margaret passed away after a brief illness on Friday night at Cape Fear Hospital.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Bruce DeHart, a brother, and grandparents who raised her.  She is survived by her father Tom Crites, brother Chris, as well as Rusty, The Pirate Jean Lafitte, Flambeaux, and host of incredible friends, coworkers, and folks that she had helped over her many years working in nonprofits.   Margaret's passion was for community and she and co-worker Jessica Drake started volunteering with our 4-H program more than 18 years ago.  They started teaching arts and crafts to our cloverbuds during 4-H Cloverbud Day Camp.  They would plan the most wonderful crafts, such as making musical instruments with paper plates and shower rings that had long ribbon curls that allowed the youth to move, play, and have the best time.  Jessica went on ...

4-H Summer Fun is Open for Member Registration

Register Today for a Summer of Fun! Robeson County 4-H is happy to announce our summer programs and activities for 2025. We invite you to join us for a fun and exciting summer of learning. The summer program has activities for all youth between the ages of 5 and 18. Membership in 4-H is not required, however, 4-H members will receive the first opportunity to sign up for programs thru March 30. On April 1, the program will open to the public for general enrollment. Below is a description of the summer programs available through Robeson County 4-H. You will find descriptions about the programs, the dates, and the costs. There is a minimum number of children who must sign up for some programs, as well as a maximum number on most programs. Remembering Bobby Rogers

      One of the first people I met, even before I was officially the 4-H Extension Agent in the County was Bobby Rogers.  He was one of the 4-H Volunteers asked to sit in on my presentation when I interviewed for this job.  I remember him sitting towards the back of the room, near his wife Aggie, who was the 4-H Program Associate.  He was smiling, nodding, and very supportive with his body language which put me at ease in a new and different environment.  I remember after accepting the position he came to me, smiling and said I knew it was going to be you.  I can't wait to see what you do.   Over the years Bobby was more than just a 4-H Volunteer.  Sure he came in and did carpentry workshops with the kids, ran the electric program, and taught countless volunteer workshops.  Before my tenure in the program he was a volunteer with Young Leaders 4-H Club when his children were in 4-H.  He volunteered to take 4-H members to c...
