We loaded back into our van this morning to head to Raleigh. On the schedule today and IMAX 3-D Documentary on the Ocean and the NC Natural Science Museum where there is always great stuff to learn.
We headed straight to IMAX at Marbles Kids Museum to see Oceans: Our Blue Planet 3-D. the documentary took us deeper into the oceans than ever before. We learned about the importance our our oceans, the reefs, and new species of wildlife that live in the darkest depths of our planet. We also learned about the detrimental effects of global warming and why we should care about polar ice caps and keeping our oceans clean.
From downtown Raleigh we travelled a few blocks down towards the legislature. There we had lunch delivered and we ate outside between the museums of History and science. It was a perfect day weather wise for a picnic and we were happy to have a moment to warm up after the movie.
As we travelled inside the NC Natural Science Museum
we were greeted by items definitely native to North Carolina. While we toured these large (yes, more than one) buildings we saw current native plants, animals, and gems. We also saw items related to prehistoric times such as dinosaurs, whales, and other cool predators and friends. In the other building things were more technology and research oriented. Did you know you can access a data base that lists all the things that have fallen from space, when, size, and what it was? You can learn about DNA and weather.
We also got to see a vet working with a snapping turtle that is having a difficult pregnancy. There was an ultrasound and other medical procedures occurred while we watched from outside the room and tried to figure out what was going on.Before we left we did a little exploring from outer space. We could view the earth, compare sizes of objects, and even track the sattelites trajectory overhead at specific times of night, such as nine pm tonight. Each of our campers took turns exploring and accidentally learning becuase that is what we do.To view all of our fun from the day in photos please click this link. Stay tuned for tomorrow as our last day of Biotech may be off the rails.
