4-H Top 4 for the week of February 7, 2022

Happy February!  February is here and have you re-enrolled in 4-H Online?  No time to waste because we have lots of exciting programs coming up starting this month for youth and adults alike!

-Friday, February 11 is the deadline to register for Southeast District 4-H Winter Fling. This program is open to our 4-H members ages 13-18.  It will take place in Surf City at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue on Saturday, February 19 from 10 am to 2 pm.  Our teens will meet with teens from 16 other counties in our district to conduct business, complete a community service project, tour the rescue and take part in STEM Workshops. Transportation is provided.  The cost of the workshop is $20, which covers admission, lunch, and supplies.  You can register and pay through our app (under programs) or by clicking this link.  Please note everyone attending will be required to wear masks while traveling and while indoors.  4-H is encouraging surgical masks, KN95, or N95 masks.  The turtle rescue requires KN95 or N95 while at their facility and will provide youth with those masks while there. For more information about this program please contact Shea Ann DeJarnette at sadejarn@ncsu.edu

--February 15 we will be hosting a project record book judging.  Multiple counties will be attending and bringing books.  This is open to adult volunteers and will take place at our office starting at 10 am.  No experience is necessary, we will have staff and volunteers to help you learn the process and what a record book should look like.  To register to be a part of this event please register on our app under programs or by clicking this link.

--March 4 is the deadline to register for County Activity Day.  County Activity Day will take place March 19 Starting at 1 pm and is open to all 4-H members between the ages of 5-18 who are actively registered in 4-H online.  County Activity Day is our annual Presentation and Public Speaking Competition.  Youth can chose to do a speech (no props or posters or Powerpoint just a speech they write themselves), Presentation (includes a demonstration, posters or Powerpoint), or outdoor cooking (firing up the charcoal to cook beef, turkey, poultry, or pork).  For more information about topics and rules please go to:  https://nc4h.ces.ncsu.edu/youth-3/4-h-awards-incentives-programs-2/presentations/  To register for this event you can register on our app under programs or by clicking this link.  Please note that youth who place first our second in their age group and topic area will have the opportunity to move forward to District Activity Day after working with our 4-H Staff.  For more information about this program please contact Wendy Maynor at wrmaynor@ncsu.edu.

-Just a note for our club members.  Some of our 4-H Club meetings are starting this week.  If  you have registered for a club in 4-H Online, you will be sent an email and link to register for those club meetings prior to the meeting date.  We are asking that you register in advance for your club meetings due to our COVID protocols and to allow your club leaders to adequately plan for the meeting and have time for supplies.  If for some reason you do not get a link and a club meeting is coming up (club calendars are part of our 4-H Calendar on the app-you can save the information from our app to your calendar) please contact Wendy Maynor at wrmaynor@ncsu.edu so that we can get the link to you.

That's all for this week!  Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Wendy, Christy, Dominque, and Shea Ann
