2021 4-H Inbound Exchange

The information below highlights some of the programs, but more information can be found here: 2021 NC 4-H International Exchange Programs. The Inbound program will look a bit different for 2021:  we will be hosting 10 delegates from Japan with 1 chaperone. Our regular capacity is 12 delegates and 2 chaperones here in NC.   The States’ 4-H program and the Japanese programs have decided they will not be sending delegates younger than 13; however, they have allowed an age difference of 4 years for host siblings (with proper discussion with host families taking place before placement).  There will be COVID-19 Health Guidelines ou...

  On the Dock of the Bay 2021 Event Announcement Eastern 4-H Center’s Virtual Event Fundraiser -  Celebrating 20 Years on Bulls Bay The Eastern 4-H Center is hosting a special virtual event for the 2021 On the Dock of the Bay on Saturday, May 1st at 7:30 pm. The virtual event will feature live and pre-recorded segments celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Eastern 4-H Center’s opening on Bulls Bay and the Albemarle Sound. On the Dock of the Bay is an annual fundraiser that supports the Eastern 4-H Center. The event will include musical entertainment, including rising country singer Paige King Johnson, who grew up in 4-H, as well as video messages from campers and tributes from patrons that have impacted the center’s success through the years. On the Dock of the Bay sponsorships are appreciated and registration is required to participate during the virtual event. All sponsors and their guests, in addition to event ticket holders, will receive a special ‘Dock Party Pack’ ...

Calling all Artists

  Here is a chance to seriously go big and stay home, the Home Store that is.  The Church and Community Center is looking for some inspired artists to transform their home store. See their message below. Last Call for local artists for our mural project! We are seeking the help of local artists to transform our Home Store into a beacon of hope. We will be taking submissions for artists in 3 categories. -Grades 9-12 ($1000 cash prize+materials) -Collegiate ($2500 cash prize+materials) -Working/Professional ($5,000 cash prize+materials) We encourage submissions to reflect the themes of our community! Art Hub 4-H Club

Thomas outside looking  at color, and drawing.  Our newest lineup to the clubs met for the first time last night.  The virtual club has 10 members and is already off to a colorful start.  Meeting virtually the youth had the opportunity to meet each other over padlet prior to the meeting.  During the meeting the learned about primary (red, yellow, and blue) colors and secondary colors (orange, green, purple).  The group played a color scavenger hunt to find items that were either primary or secondary colors.   Jahari's color submission At the end of the meeting the artists were commissioned to go outside and see color.  Then sketch out what they see in their sketchbooks, or on a piece of paper, and demonstrate the color they see.  The youth are then asked to put a short video of them explaining their art on the club's Flipgrid page or on their padlet.  They have a week to complete the work. This club will meet weekly for six weeks....

Thoughts and Prayers for our 4-H Family

  Beverly Chambers accepting her club's charter seal at 4-H Appreciation Night in 2017. Beverly Chambers, a 4-H Volunteer for 22 years and club leader for Spiritual Generations 4-H Club, passed away overnight.  She had been battling COVID and had been hospitalized for more than a month.   Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, her 4-H family, and all those whose lives she touched.  At this time arrangements have not been announced.  As soon as we know more we will share it with you.     Please remember Beverly's family in your thoughts and prayers.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Hybrid Livestock Science Camp

  What is NC State’s Hybrid Livestock Science Camp?  The camp program is designed to have students explore the science (nutrition, genetics, physiology, health, engineering etc.) of animal production.  Participants will engage in laboratory activities at home, watch demonstrations/farm tours, and connect with industry leaders. Throughout the week we also explore the high-demand STEM careers related to animal science, there is a whole world beyond veterinary medicine. What is the format of the camp?  The virtual camp program will involve a camp resource page for exploring various animal industries, live virtual meetings, and at home activities. Live programming will occur from approximately 9am to 3pm Monday-Thursday June 28-July 1st. NC State Animal Science and Agricultural Education students serve as counselors and part of the educational team.  There will potentially be a one-day live animal interaction workshop at the end of the camp program July 2 or 3, 2021...
