4-H County Activity Day

Did you hear the news?  Robeson County 4-H County Activity Day left us speechless.  Well at least the judges, for a brief moment in time.  Our youth were fantastic with their presentations, speeches, and new this year Entertains Acts and we couldn't be more proud.

Going through by age group below are the results of the day.

In our 8-10 year old division Thomas Underwood with the Dirty Rascals Jr. Master Gardener 4-H Club, played "Silent Night" on the piano for the audience.  He received a champion ribbon and qualified to move on to District participation.

In our 11-13 age division it was a little more hectic.  Jahari Roberson with Young Leaders and Dirty Rascals JMG 4-H Clubs, gave us a presentation in Communications and Expressive Arts on Origami.  She received a first place ribbon and will move on to District competition.  Ian Malloy, with the Dirty Rascals JMG 4-H Club, also gave a presentation on building campfires, he received a blue ribbon for his open category presentation and will move on to District as well. Jade Brown and Malachi Jones, with the Young Leaders 4-h Club, both competed in Public Speaking.  Jade did an incredibly personal speech on insecurity and Malachi did a humorous speech on Homework.  Malachi earned a red ribbon and Jade was given first.  Both orators will move on to District level competition.  Rounding out the 11-13 age division was Walt Malloy, with the Dirty Rascals JMG 4-H Club, playing the clarinet for Entertains.  Walt also gave a little history to the instrument before he played his piece.  Walt received a purple ribbon and the opportunity to move forward to perform at District Activity Day.

In our Senior 14-18 age division we had a family battle in the Public Speaking Division.  Amare and Dimetrious Jones, of the Young Leaders 4-H Club, both provided excellent speeches.  Amare talked about life lessons from playing basketball while Dimetrious focused on what you learn from teams.  In the end Dimetrious took home the blue ribbon while his bother received second.  Both will have the opportunity to move forward to District Activity Day.  Kennedi Lyons, a member of the Dirty Rascals JMG 4-H Club, was a sole presenter in the Senior Division giving an incredible presentation on a topic she is passionate about, Representation in the Media.  Kennedi received a blue ribbon for her stellar presentation and will also move on to District level competition.

We would like to take a moment to thank our parents and volunteers who got our youth ready for this incredible program.  We appreciate your time it took to prepare and be here, sometimes with youth who don't understand the importance of what they are doing until later.  We would also like to thank our judges for their time, wisdom, and feedback to help us get our youth ready for DAD.

District Activity Day will be held June 16 at Lenior Community College.  We will be working with all our participants to get them ready for DAD.  If they place first or second in their age division, and category, they will move on to state competition in July.
