As you can tell from the weather the last several days Spring is almost here. We are working to update our website with numerous upcoming events. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
NC 4-H Youth Livestock Webpage
What : East Coast Extravaganza
When: March 4-5
Who: Youth under the age of 21. This is a livestock show for pigs, lambs, goats, and cattle.
Where: Johnston County Livestock Arena, Smithfield ***Location Change from Previous Years****
What: Youth Livestock Agent & Volunteer Leader Training
When: March 14-15
Who: This is open to any agents or volunteers that would like to learn more about the youth livestock program. Topics include showing livestock, basic nutrition, animal health, training skillathon, judging, and quiz bowl teams. More information on topics and the schedule will be released shortly.
Where: E. Carroll Joyner Beef Educational Unit, Raleigh
What: Wilson County Livestock Judging Contest
When: March 29 at 1:00 pm
Who: 4-H or FFA members, Top 3 teams and individuals will be recognized. Register at the event.
Where: Wilson County Fairgrounds 2331 US-301 Wilson
What: Johnston County Livestock Judging Contest
When: April 4 at 5:30 pm
Who: Three youth divisions (Jr, Int, Sr) and adult division. 4-5 classes, one set of questions, no oral reasons. Prizes to top two teams and top five individuals in each division. Sign up on the spot, no fee.
Where: Johnston County Livestock Arena, 520 County Home Rd Smithfield
Upcoming Livestock Shows (Open to anyone)
Mid-Atlantic Swine Circuit (Thunder Classic Showdown, Albemarle Spring Fever, The Final Draw)
What : NC Sheep & Goat Roundup (New Event)
When: July 13-16
Who: This event will be open to NC residents only. This event will include market lamb, breeding ewe, market goat, breeding doe, and showmanship classes. Additionally, we plan to have other educational contests such as public speaking, photography, livestock judging, and others. More information to come.
Where: Carolina Classic Fairgrounds, Winston-Salem, NC
What: Supreme Skillathon Championship
When: This will be a culmination of scores from 7 different contests throughout North Carolina. Youth will be allowed to drop their two lowest scores. We will have three age divisions just like the State 4-H Contests. The top Individuals will be recognized at the 2024 NC Cattlemen's Conference. More information is attached to this email.
Where: Multiple contests across NC.
