Did you know that September is National Childhood Obesity Month? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1 in 5 children in the United States are obese. North Carolina has the 20th highest adult obesity rate in the nation, and the 15th lowest obesity rate for youth ages 10-17, according to the State of Obesity website. In Robeson County, neither youth nor adults get the recommended amount of nutrition or physical activity each day. In the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) we teach families and individuals different ways to eat healthy and be more active. September 2019 Extraordinary Extension NC 4-H Congress The North Carolina 4-H Congress Youth and Donor Brunch was Monday, July 22. At the event, youth connected with the donors who make scholarships, engagement events, and conference attendance possible. There was over 60 4-H youth scholarship recipients, 21 youth were 4-H Portfolio winners, and 23 youth were National Trip recipients. Attendees also gave gratitude to this year's Acorn Award recipients, Vance Dalton, and Carroll Moseley. Additional images from the event can be viewed here.
