Scholarship Opportunity

 

Good morning folks.  We have received these scholarship opportunities for High School Seniors planning to pursue a degree in agriculture or a related field.  

One scholarship is open to anyone planning to purse a degree in agriculture or a related field however an educator (teacher, 4-H Agent, etc.) would need to nominate you if you are interested.  

The second opportunity is for anyone who has family working at a Mountaire plant and is designed to send another generation to college.  Please read both opportunities carefully and if you qualify and need some assistance apply let Jade McNeill or myself know and we will be happy to assist you.

Aspiring Film Makers?

 

My name is Brielle Barozzini and I am organizing a student film festival in collaboration with the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners and 100 Strong Productions. I wanted to share more about the festival and to see if you would be willing to share about this opportunity within Robeson County.

 

The film festival is for North Carolina middle school, high school, and undergraduate students. Films can be of any genre and must be under 15 minutes to be considered. Our prompt is that we are looking for films that uplift counties and local governments. We are accepting submissions through January 15th and the festival will be in Raleigh next May. 

 

Films that are selected to be a part of the 100 Strong Productions Student Film Festival will have the opportunity to be awarded a prize package valued up to $1,000.

Just a quick overview you can be in middle school, high school, or and undergraduate college student to participate.  There is a $20 fee for each submission.  Videos can be 1-15 minutes long.  

FILM PROMPT : 

We are looking for stories that uplift North Carolina counties and local governments. 

What does this prompt mean? 

Here are some examples:

• Ask to spend a day with a county employee (e.g., county Finance Department, Parks & Recreation Department, EMS Department, and more)

• Interview a county commissioner or local government leader. 

• Attend a local Board of County Commissioners meeting.

• Attend a local government event. Check for event listings on county websites. For example, in Wake County, there are organized nature hikes, county library events and a variety of board meetings listed on the website calendar.

• Check out the NCACC County Lines video series for more inside county government inspiration. You can also run any ideas by the100 Strong Productions team by sending an email to 100strong@ncacc.org

 

National STEM Compeitition

 

Hey 4-H Members we're excited to announce that you can submit STEM projects to the 2025 National STEM Festival!  All youth in grades 7-132 in the US, District of Columbia, and US Territories are invited to participate. 

  Your submission must fit under one of 6 Festival Themes:  Aerospoace Innovation; Environmental Stewardship; Future Food; Health and Medicine; Powering the Planet; or Tech for Good.  To learn more about the different themes and projects please go to:  https://www.nationalstemfestival.com/themes

The aim of this study is to better understand how children's eating behaviors are related to their sleep, activity, and environment. This study is being conducted by the Family Health and Eating Lab at Penn State University (Principal Investigator: Dr. Emily Hohman). What will happen if I participate? - You and your child will attend a virtual research visit using Zoom. Before the Zoom visit, we will mail you a package containing everything you need to complete the study. During the Zoom visit, a research assistant will help you measure your child's height and weight to confirm their eligibility. If your child is eligible to continue with the study, the research assistant will then go over how to complete the two week at-home data collection protocol. - Your child will wear two activity monitors (similar to a Fitbit) on their wrist and hip, and answer surveys on a smartphone several times a day for two weeks. We will not ask your child to complete surveys during school hours. - Your child will attend a second Zoom visit with a researcher to answer questionnaires about their sleep, eating, feelings, and health. - You will complete an online survey about your child's behaviors and your home and family environment. - You will mail the study supplies back to the research team using prepaid shipping supplies that we will provide. - You and your child will receive up to $200 in gift cards for participating in the study. Art Opportunity

4-H members please check out this art opportunity available to youth in Representative David Rouzer's District. 

The 2023 Congressional Art Competition for high school students who live or attend school in North Carolina's Seventh Congressional District is still ongoing!  If you know someone who meets this criteria, please share the following information and encourage them to submit a piece for this year's competition. The theme for this year's competition is "This is N.C." It also must have a wire attached to the back suitable for hanging on a wall. The submission must not weigh more than 15 pounds. The submission must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. It is recommended charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed. Work entered must be in the original medium; that is, not a scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing. Framing rules apply only to the winning artwork. My district staff are also available to pick up artwork from students.
