A message about 4-H Volunteer Leaders Association Officer Nomination
Hello NC 4-H!
I am writing to share a quick update on the District and State VLA nomination process for the upcoming year. This past year has brought new needs, conversations, and opportunities within our District and State 4-H Volunteer Leaders Associations. With that in mind, I want to highlight a few things coming up as we move toward our Volunteer Leaders Conference in February (Feb 5-7 in Greensboro).
Officer Nominations
In the fall, districts normally build their slate of officers for the upcoming VLA year. Dr. McCollum and I are working with our District Advisors to have some District VLA conversations to map out some new possibilities for our District VLAs. This means we are pausing District nominations until January 1st to gather information from our district volunteers. I know this is out of the norm, but these conversations are crucial before we move forward with our current VLA structure.
State Officer nominations will continue as we have previously done in the past. The State VLA nomination form is available here: 2027-2028 State VLA Officer Nomination Form and on the NC 4-H VLA Leadership website.
District Conversations
As I mentioned before, Dr. McCollum and I are working to get some focused volunteer leader conversations within our districts in December. Once I can gather a little more input from our District VLA Advisors, I will send dates and times to you all in the counties to share with your volunteers. Be on the lookout for these SOON!
We would also like feedback from county agents and staff about working with and developing 4-H volunteers at all levels; we will plan to schedule these as well at the start of 2027.
If you have any specific questions or concerns you would like us to consider in these focus conversations, please feel free to email me and include VLA in the subject line.
Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into your 4-H volunteers! We know our programs would not be as successful without the assistance of volunteers within our county, district, and state programs!
Making the Best Better,
Daniel
